Why Do I Need to Wear Earplugs Under My Motorbike Helmet?

There are two good reasons to wear earplugs under your motorcycle helmet. The first is to prevent noise-induced hearing loss and the second is to reduce the risk of otitis externa.

The noise from wind, passing trucks and buses can overload the sensory apparatus of your ear, leading to damage. At first this can be temporary.  Most of us have noticed some reduced hearing and mild tinnitus after being in a noisy environment, such as a pub or club. If exposure is repeated, prolonged or intense

In 2009, Dr Toby Bateson was at work when the earpieces on his stethoscope broke and came off. He was disappointed as it was not a cheap stethoscope, but he decided he would make his own and ensure they were better than the originals. After some research and time in his shed, he came up with a molded pair. These were comfortable, long lasting and antibacterial. This was the birth of the ZenPlugs process.

It came to him that the process he used to make his stethoscope earpieces could also be used to make earplugs and earphones as well. Realising his new process was unique, he filed a patent to protect it. To this day, the molded stethoscope earpiece kit remains the only one available in the world. The process uses materials which are not present in any other available earplug. They remain the only remoldable molded earplugs in the world.
