Knowing which ear plugs are best can be a challenge when so many different types are available in the shops and online.  Here are a few tips on what to look out for.

Wax And Soft Silicon.  These are ideal for swimming and sleeping but unfortunately both tend to be a little tacky and accumulate hair and dirt.  Need replacing frequently, can't be connected on a cord, one colour only.

Foam.  These are good at blocking noise by aren't suitable or swimming as they don't block water from the ears.  Not suitable for sleeping either as they protrude from the ears, making them uncomfortable when lying on your side.  Can be unhygienic as they accumulate dirt and ear wax. Can be connected on a cord but tend to be uncomfortable as they expand in your ears, causing pressure on the delicate skin lining your ear canals.
