How To Choose Ear Plugs For Snoring

There are many different types of ear plugs available for snoring; how do you know which will be the best snoring ear plugs for you?  Here are some ideas to help you choose the right ones for you.

Foam ear plugs.  These aren't ideal for sleeping because they protrude from your ears so are uncomfortable when you lie on your side. The pillow pushes them into your ear canals causing discomfort.  Because they expand in your ear canals they are uncomfortable, work themselves free and fall out. What Causes Snoring And Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)?

Snoring is a common problem caused by the vibration of the relaxed soft tissues of the upper airways and pharynx during sleep.  Loud snoring is a common sign of obstructive sleep apnoea. OSA is when people stop breathing in their sleep due to the temporary closure of the upper airways.  The chest and abdomen may see-saw and gagging noises may occur. Then the individual wakes up enough for the muscles in the upper airway to increase their tone. This opens up the airways and allows them to breathe again.

Another sign of OSA is daytime sleepiness.  Because the individual may awaken several times per night as the cycle repeats they may be sleepy during the day.  It is likely they will fall asleep at inopportune moments such as whilst driving or in meetings.
